Will Ceramic Coating Fill in Scratches?

Beginner level detailing enthusiasts who choose to work on their vehicles for surface paint protection, often, forget the fact that the surface you are working on has already had few if not more scratches on it.

There are many ceramic coating brands, and different formulas are available in the market today.

To get the best protection against future scratches, you will need to spend more money than you would spend on a traditional wax because wax compounds do not do an excellent job at protecting than ceramic coatings.

Since you are already paying a good amount of money on a ceramic coating product, it is worth noting that to get your monies worth,  you should do some prior work for the ceramic coating application to be more effective.

Erase the Past

Remember, your vehicle may already have many thin or even deep scratches on its surface.

Some scratches are visible from far away; some are hidden and hard to spot because they are minor small scratches.

Also, remember that a very good nanolayer ceramic coating formula should protect your vehicle from scratches for a minimum of 3-years.

If your car is going to protect for the next 3-years with a ceramic coating solution, it will make it worthwhile for you to remove those existing scratches before applying a nano-ceramic coating.

To remove or to fill those existing scratches, it will require some time and know-how.

To do this, you will need a scratch filling (removing) compound, and this compound works best if it buffed with a buffing machine.

Unless you work as a detailer, more than likely, you do not have a buffing machine.

If you have not applied a scratch removal compound before, you should leave this portion out to the professionals.

Take it to your local detailing shop and have them fill the scratches.

After the scratch removal process is complete, you may have the detailing shop apply the ceramic coating, or you can do this on your own as well.

But again, if you have not worked with a scratch removing compound before, take it to a professional, it’s worth it.

After applying a scratch removing compound, the surface of your vehicle should be free of major and minor scratches, and it is now safe to use a nano ceramic coating solution.

Applying a ceramic coating product should be done in a shaded area and preferably have it cured for up to 24 hours before washing.

The application process does differ from brand to brand, but most of the time, it is a straight forward process.

There are ceramic coating products in the market that will require you to do 2-or more layers of an application, and this can be time-consuming.

For a novice detailing enthusiast, it can be a confusing situation.

To ease your mind, look for a nano ceramic solution that is a single layer application process, meaning you only apply it once you don’t need to do any other extra work.

You’ve removed the existing scratches on your vehicle with a scratch removing compound and then applied nano-coating to protect it against future scratches from happening.

Ceramic Coating Maintenance

Ceramic coatings prevent staining from happening and do make future exterior cleaning an easy process.

If you use to go to a car wash station often, after coating your vehicle with a ceramic application, you should ease the amount of time you wash your car with hard brushes.

Over time, using hard brushes will slowly begin to remove the effectiveness of the ceramic coating product.

Instead of using the brush to clean the exterior of your car, go with a brushless option or wash it by hand.
